Globalization: is it a force for good or for bad?
Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology. the potential to make this world a better place to live in and solve some of the deep-seated problems like unemployment and poverty. It is not only one country, but include many countries to do things. The world is becoming more globalized, there is no doubt about that.
After our group discussion, we have four groupmates. Groupmate A disagreed with this point. She said that globalization will become easier to destroy the environment and consume more energy. I agree with her because globalization will increase more activities between every activity will consume more energy or resource. Groupmate B agreed with globalization. She thought globalization could narrow the distance between countries. Groupmate C agreed with globalization. He thought globalization can encourage countries relationship, it can benefit economic development. If they have good economic development and friendly relations, it will reduce conflict and war. I partially agree with his point, because globalization is good for countries relationship. However, it is not the main reason to reduce conflict and war. Groupmate D agreed with globalization. He thought that globalization can lead to more goods and services generally available at lower prices. I agree with this point because globalization can increase competition between companies. Companies will reduce the price. It also reduces the burden on consumers.
Free trade is good for all countries who participate in it, and it should be more encouraged. Increase free trade is a way for countries to exchange goods and resource. The bigger export market for domestic manufacturers, the economy of scale through being able to specialize in certain goods, greater competition. Also, all nations are already interconnected, and it certainly behooves all of us to work together and have free trade. A quick view of stock markets across the globe shows how much nations are very connected and influenced by each other. For example, there has a down market in United States of America, it let the stock markets in Europe and Asia are fewer and fewer. The wealth can help some poor countries such as developing county. Haiti’s aid (one of the poorest countries in the world) would be got help by shows how much a country can benefit from the affluence and interaction with other nations.
One of the reasons is technological. It is more practical that the improved-on transportation and communication using in society. Globalization is a force to make change to technology. For example, the changes of technology and production methods that determine the future of workers managers and their interrelationships. It can greatly reduce labor force and replace by machine. It is also improving the production efficiency. Also, technological change has helped fuel the rapid rise in global economic activity, especially in relation to communication and transport. The fact of transport costs is falling, and the worldwide travel is increasing exponentially. This has had a direct impact on the structure of industry, with tourism now being the second biggest industry as well across a whole range of other business activities. The other reason is free trade. Many barriers to trade have been removed mostly by the World Trade organization (WTO). This makes the trade of company’s product cheaper and looks more attractive to business.
Environment. Everyone has the responsibility to protect the environment. It is not just one country responsibility, but all country should do. The pollution should be solved by every country. There have a lot of pollution in the recent year, such as land pollution, water pollution, air pollution, etc. GEF’s is going to control the international water with transboundary concern. “They aim to reduce vulnerability to climate variability and climate-related risk, and increased ecosystem resilience, restored and sustained freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems goods and services, including globally significant biodiversity, as well as maintained the capacity of nature system to sequester carbon.”(Global Environment Facility,2018) For land degradation, GEF’s focus on a local area, specifically addressing desertification and deforestation. “They aim to improve the provision of agro-ecosystem and forest ecosystem goods and services. “(Global Environment Facility,2018)
